Eating Deep
082312: Lunch: Soup: I accidentally skipped lunch, so I stopped by the deli counter in the grocery store to get a quick cup of soup before I wasted away to nothing. This is a Summer Squash soup, with toasted hazelnuts. I hated it. I only ate half, and that was totally begrudgingly. It was too creamy, too thin, and it was loaded with mushrooms, which I hate, because I am still 9 years old in my heart. The lady didn’t tell me there were mushrooms. Why, lady. Why wouldn’t you tell that to the customer when the customer says “Tell me about this soup.” The horror of a slimy mushroom sliding down the back of one’s throat. The HORROR. Plus, the taste of the hazelnuts DID actually add something to the soup, but they and their excessive crunch were very jarring, compared to the thinnest of the soup. Like Corn-Nuts in a glass of water. Not great. Boo to you, soup. BOO.
080812: Dessert: small bowl of ancient grains granola, topped with toasted hazelnuts, Van cherries, cinnamon, sugar.
080412: Dinner Partay!, Part I: Salad: Farmers’ market mixed lettuces + chard + spinach, blueberries, feta cheese crumbles, hazelnuts, avocado, green onion, balsamic fig dressing + about 3 glasses of pink wine.
062612: Dessert: 2x hazelnut Dark Chocolate cookies. Still my very favorite fucking cookie. Used brown sugar, made a ganache from 72% dark chocolate and Nutella. Little chardonnay smoked sea salt up on top. Boom. Click for recipe approximation.
061912: Dinner, Part I: Salad: Farmers’ market lettuce mix + spinach, Fuji apple, avocado, feta, toasted hazelnuts, green onion, dressed in home made Dijon apricot vinaigrette.
061312: Dessert, Part III: I made more hazelnut cookies to give as birthday and fathers’ day gifts this week, and I HAD to eat one to make sure they weren’t poison. Click for recipe.

060812: Dessert: 2 Hazelnut Cookies with dark chocolate/Nutella topping. Click for recipe. The Husband said these are some of the best cookies I have ever made. And he is probably right. And so, completes the day of eating all of the food in the whole world. I am stuffed, and it was awesome. Let’s do it again tomorrow, boys.
060712: Dessert: Yeah, I made cookies again. Hazelnut shortbread, essentially. Click for recipe. Used a little 72% dark chocolate melted and mixed with Nutella to dip them in. Pretty much an amazing cookie. I ate 4 little ones. It was over a period of three hours, but still. Fucking four. I’m probably going to do it tomorrow too, and it’s going to rule then, as well.
060312: Dessert: At Dundee Bistro, a fabulous cheese and fruit plate. There was a local goat cheese, a manchego, and a double creme brie. Little hazelnuts, some local french bread, an amazing onion and rhubarb puree, some sliced cured meat that was off the chain, and not pictured are the handful of Oregon strawberries, red grapes and apple slices that made this bitch a fabulous plate. Ate half at the restaurant and half at home with a glass of cab.
